Factories. Return to an address of the Honourable the House of Commons, dated 7 August 1838;--for, a return of all the mills and factories, specifying the firms, which have neglected to transmit returns to the inspectors, when called upon, at any time during the twelvemonth ending 30th June 1838;--of the number of persons employed in cotton, woollen, worsted, flax and silk factories of the United Kingdom; distinguishing counties and parishes, the description of manufacture, the horse power, and whether moved by steam-engines or waterwheels; also, the moving power, if steam and water together; and, finally, the actual power; likewise, the number of children under nine years of age, the number also of children between nine and thirteen, and of young persons between thirteen and eighteen, the total number of hands employed in all cases, distinguishing the sexes; according to the plan adopted by Mr. Inspector Rickards, in the return ordered to be printed 30 March 1836;--and, of the names of all mills and firms from which answers have not been obtained for the purpose of the above return [electronic resource].
