Biography: Sebastian Münster was a German cosmographer and Hebrew scholar, born in Ingelheim and educated at Tübingen and Heidelberg. He entered the Franciscan Order but in 1529 repudiated his monastic vows. In 1536 he moved to Basel, where he was appointed professor of mathematics at the university.
