The Finishing stroke: or, Mr. Ruddiman self-condemned [electronic resource] : Being a reply to Mr. Ruddiman's Answer to (only) Mr. Logan's first treatise on government. In two parts. The first demonstrates, that the right of the Kings of Scotland to the Crown was not strictly and absolutely hereditary. First, from the succession of Robert Stewart, to the exclusion of the descendents of John Baliol, who had the preferable right. Secondly, from the sucession of Robert Stewart, contrary to the just claim of William Earl of Douglas. The second part demonstrates, that the right of our kings to the crown of Scotland, was not strictly and abosolutely hereditary, from the succession of Robert III. who was begotten out of lawful marriage.
