John Gould ( 1804- 1881 ) produuced some 3000 beautifully hand coloured lithographs of the birds of all continents except Africa. This paper examines how he was able to do this with very little outside help working from his family home in inner London. With special reference to Birds of Australia -- Supplied by the publisher.
