General note

Map showing the boundary of Sydney, and the new City Council's six wards. It shows streets, public buildings, and Sydney's residences.

This state precedes Wells' 1843 map of the City of Sydney carrying most of the plate. The 1843 ed. keeps Wells' elaborate calligraphy of the title, which now reads: To the Right Worshipful [...].

Wells was 25 in 1842, and described himself to the new City Council as 'Formerly Assistant Surveyor under the Poor Law and Commutation Tythe Commissioners for the County Wiltshire, England, in 1837'....
