Summary
The Second World War put a stop to motor racing. The immediate post-war years 1945-47 show a revival under makeshift conditions with Raymond Somer and Jean Pierre Wimille as national heroes. In 1948 a new era began with the French Grand Prix at Rheims, new circuits opening, the final triumph of Wimille and the appearance of Stirling Moss.
