General note

Flinders and Bass set out from Port Jackson on Oct. 7 1798 in the sloop Norfolk of 25 tons burden, accompanied in part by private vessel Nautilus (Capt. Bishop, Supercargo Roger Simpson) to circumnavigate Van Diemen's Land. They reached Twofold Bay on Oct. 9, and spent four days surveying the bay.
