The gentlemen of the town and neighbourhood of Manchester, [electronic resource] : Who were the first to make a publick Offer of Support to his Majesty, for the Suppression of the Rebellious Insurrection in America, Have been honored with his Majesty's Acceptance of a Regiment of One Thousand Men, to be raised at their own Expence. As a most distinguished Mark of the Royal Favour, And as an honorable Testimony of the Loyalty and Attachment of the Gentlemen who have proposed to raise this Regiment, His Majesty hath been pleased to Honor it with the Title Of the 72d Regiment of Foot, or Royal Manchester Volunteers, And hath ordered that it shall be commanded by a General Officer, whose Services abroad have been most particularly eminent; And hath promised, as an additional Honor, to Review this Regiment in Person when raised and compleat. All Gallant and Loyal Lancashire Men, Who wish to share the Honors of their King, and to suppress the daring Spirit of Rebellion, which hath been so presumptuously cherished and supported by the open and secret Enemies to his Majesty and the British Constitution, shall receive a Bounty equal to their Merit, and be compleatly equipped with Arms, Cloaths, and Accoutrements, requisite for a Gentlemen Royal Volunteer, on Application to Major Horsfall, Captain Aytoun, Captain Clowes, Or any other Officer belonging to the Regiment. As this Regiment is intended to be exhibited, not only as a publick Example of the Loyalty of the Promoters, but also as a pattern Regiment, both for Discipline and Character, no Recruits will be accepted under five Feet six Inches high, nor under 16 Years of Age. The Gentlemen and Officers Will beat up with Drums, Fifes, and a Band of Music every Market-Day, in Manchester, Bolton, Rochdale, and the adjacent Towns, where publick Entertainment will be given, as well to Recruits as others, and where every Young Man above 5 Feet 6 Inches, may have any reasonable Bounty he shall ask for. God Save the King.
