The initails "R.C.V.T.K.S" in the inscription represent Newington College Versus The Kings School.
The cricket ball was originally received in a canvas bag with a note by the donor. The note is located with the ball.

In 1907, Robert Glendon Scott took five wickets with five consecutive balls playing for Newington College, Sydney, against The King's School, Parramatta.
