Administrative / Biographical history
Sir Charles Sladen, 1816-1884, Premier of Victoria, was born in Kent and arrived at Port Phillip in 1841. He practiced law at Geelong from 1842 to 1854 when he retired. In 1854 he was appointed Acting Colonial Treasurer, from 1855 to 1857 he was Treasurer in the first Victorian Ministry and was Premier for a short time in 1856
