Artist informed Library at time of presentation that his and Roy de Mestre's were only portraits of White, and that this was study for a large Archibald Prize entry.
Digby's portrait of White was a finalist in the 1965 Archibald Prize. The painting is now in the collections of the Art Gallery of NSW.
