Administrative / Biographical history

William Bland, medical practitioner and politician, was transported to Australia in 1814 for killing a man in a duel. He received a pardon and practised medicine in Sydney. In 1843 he was elected a member of the first representative government of New South Wales and in 1859 became first president of the Australian Medical Association.
