The Waterside Workers' Federation was formed in 1902 from a movement led by W. M. Hughes who became the Federation's first general president from 1907-1916. At the end of 1955 a log of claims was put before the Commonwealth Arbitration Court but was unsuccessful. The members of the Federation therefore went on strike in January-February 1956 result...
