Mary Margaret (Peg) Armitage nee Lillis, 1926-1988, was born in Limerick, Ireland. She and her husband, Richard, emigrated to Australia. In 1965 she became an alderman in the Drummoyne Municipal Council and in 1972 became its first woman mayor.
