Samuel Barry Jones (1923-1999), fitter and parliamentarian, was born at Newcastle and educated at Newcastle Boys' High School. He trained and worked as a fitter and was a shop steward for the Amalgamated Engineering Union. He joined the Australian Labor Party in 1945.
