Attributions / Conjectures

The work is unsigned, formerly entered under the name of Alexander Macleay. Attributed to Fanny Macleay by Joy Huges, private researcher, who noted that the inscription on the reverse side of the drawing is almost certainly in the hand of Fanny Macleay as compared in the Macarthur Papers, Letters from Fanny Leonora Macleay 2 Jan. 1927-11 Nov. 1831...

Date note

Approximately dated from the buildings depicted, eg St Mary's Cathedral is unfinished. Reference: Kerr, Joan and Broadbent, James. Gothick taste in the colony of New South Wales. Sydney, David Ell Press, 1980
