Diaries numbered 1-8 `Tomlins war diaries, 21 August 1914 - 28 April 1917' were purchased in 1920 from Fred Harold Tomlins as part of the `Records of the European War Collecting Project, established by the Trustees of the Mitchell Library in 1918' (MLMSS 1002 ; microfilm CY 587, frames 1-607).

Fred Harold Tomlins, farmer of Cobar, New South Wales and son of Tim and Margaretta Tomlins enlisted in the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment at the age of 23, on 22 Aug. 1914. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A16 Star of Victoria, 20 Oct. 1914 and after a period of training in Australia was sent to Egypt. He served at Gallipoli, Egypt and P...
