Administrative / Biographical history
Beaufoy Merlin and the American and Australasian Photographic Company arrived in Sydney from Victoria in September 1870. The studio did views, street scenes and later portraits. In March 1872 Merlin and his assistant Charles Bayliss moved to the goldfields town of Hill End. It was on this site that many carte-de-visite portraits were taken.
