A Wild Colonial Boy, published in the Sydney edition of the Truth, appears to be a heavily edited version of The Early Days of a Wild Colonial Youth.

This volume was found in the UNSW Library. The origins are unknown, however the first page of The Early Days of a Wild Colonial Youth states, ‘Being a manuscript in the possession of Mrs Fred Wells, 104 Petersham Road, Marrickville, daughter of John McGuire, brother-in-law of Ben Hall, bushranger.’
Administrative / Biographical history
John McGuire (1826-1915) was born in Kent St, Sydney. His mother was born in Hawkesbury and his father in Dublin. In the 1860s he held a sheep property near Parkes, and was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the Eugowra gold robbery. A handwritten note on the first page of The Early Days of a Wild Colonial Youth states: ‘His wife was Helen...
