Margaret Melrose Haynes (1924-2015), was born in Sydney, New South Wales, the daugher of James and Minnie Birk. After working as a volunteer in World War II, Margaret decided to travel alone to England and Europe. She sailed from Sydney in 1951 and returned in 1955.
