Administrative / Biographical history
Formed in 1881 from the 63rd and 96th Regiments and two battalions of the 6th Royal Lancashire Militia. The 63rd Regiment was based in Australia, mainly Van Diemen's Land in 1829-33. The 96th Regiment was based in Australia in 1841-48 and seved in the Maori War of 1845-46
