William Ebrington Gordon, 18-- - 1897, later Rear-Admiral, was a master's mate on the paddle wheeled steam sloop H.M.S. Virago during a tour of duty in the Pacific. He returned to England in 1854 on HMS Portland as a newly promoted lieutenant.
