Gunner Reginald Hewitt of the 11th Battery, 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment, was captured in the Libyan Desert on 8 April 1941. He spent the next three years as a prisoner of war, firstly of the Italians and then of the Germans. He was repatriated back to Australia in 1944.
