Jacob Richard Clarke, George Street, Sydney, publisher, produced a series of carte-de-visite views of Sydney in preparation for high demand during the International Exhibition of 1879. Some of these images are of that series.

"These photos were taken by James Alexander Holden my grandfather and founder of the business which is now General Motors Holdens".
"J.R. Clarke publisher and importer of photographs" stamped on back of several images. Probably commercial photographs available for consumer purchase between 1875 and 1880.
