1 framed watercolour portrait of Sarah Busby on wove paper. The original wooden frame is decorated with gilt and matte coating. The watercolours were executed with pencil underdrawing, pigmented watercolour and white body colour.
Sarah Busby is wearing a decorative Indian shawl, an expensive item at the time, and holds a pair of spectacles....

Administrative / Biographical history
Sarah (nee Kennedy) Busby had eight children, six of whom survived infancy. Her eldest son George was a surgeon in Bathurst, and two other sons served in the New South Wales Legislature. With her husband, John Busby, she retired to their 2000 acre property Kirkton, near Singleton which had been granted in 1835. Sarah died at Kirkton in 1842, aged 7...
