The J-PARC E14 KOTO experiment studies the rare $K_L \to \pi ^0 \nu \overline {\nu }$ decay to search for new physics beyond the standard model that breaks the CP symmetry. The experiment, with a new beam line and new detector components, is currently being prepared.
