Born Fanny Borach in New York City, [Fanny Brice] started her stage career at age 13 when she won first prize in a talent contest in Brooklyn. In 1910 Florenz Ziegfeld heard her singing and made her a headliner in his Follies. She became a Follies perennial, and in the 1921 edition introduced a French torch song, My Man, which became her trademark....
