Two years later in Toronto, confident of a future together, he convinced a reluctant Ms. [Sarah Kathleen Lenz] to drive six hours to the cottage. "He was so adamant about going that I said, '[G. Grant Welstead], if my sister wasn't getting married in September, I'd think you were going to propose.' I really had it in my head that he was not," because she had told him about not wanting to overshadow her sister's event. The church is central to their lives; he is a tenor in the choir, and she is a youth volunteer. On Sept. 27, her mother said, "the rain had quit, and the choir arrived serenading Sarah with an old English wedding song, and then they led the way singing Chapel of Love." The melodious processional comprised the male choir, including Mr. Welstead, his groomsmen and the female choir leading the bridegroom's parents, her mother and the bridesmaids. They preceded her father and the fairy-tale bride, in a dupioni silk creation by Tricia Cochran Couturiere, who floated the 210 steps across the road to Rosedale United Church, there to be greeted by a sumptuous array of mango Autumn Dream, Black Magic and cinnamon Leonidas roses, symbolizing love.
