Elf Atochem, the chemicals unit of the French oil group Elf Aquitaine, said on Dec 26, 1996 that it had agreed to buy the European adhesives and sealants operations of the British chemicals group Laporte PLC. The operations have annual revenues of BP100 million ($167 million).
