VANCOUVER, Aug. 12 /CNW/ - BC Hydro has released its 2002 Triple Bottom Line Report, which measures BC Hydro's environmental, social and economic performance. The report, now in its fourth year, aims to build a shared understanding of BC Hydro's business and the company's commitment to being an environmentally, socially and economically responsible energy company. The Triple Bottom Line Report complements BC Hydro's 2002 Annual Report that provides more detailed information on the company's financial performance. "BC Hydro is committed to becoming one of North America's leading sustainability companies," said BC Hydro's Senior Vice-President, Strategic Planning and Sustainability, Bruce Sampson. "An integral part of being sustainable is our ability to balance and integrate the three bottom lines into business decision-making. In 2002, BC Hydro demonstrated our ability to do so by considering the environmental, social and economic influences and impacts of programs such as Power Smart, Green and Alternative Energy, and Water Use Planning. All of these programs clearly add value across the three bottom lines for our customers, stakeholders and the company." In this year's report, BC Hydro expanded the number of reported indicators, and aligned them where possible to the revised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, internationally recognized sustainability reporting guidelines.
