The shipwreck often results in the precipitate abandonment of a vessel's complement on what, to them, can appear as an in hospitable and frightening shore. On arrival on the shore, shipwreck survivors are often bereft of the trapping of power the essentials which categorise succrssful exploratory, trading or acquisitive 'landings'.
