Administrative / Biographical history

Pedro Fernandes de Quiros, navigator, was born in Portugal in 1565. He was chief pilot of Mendana's expedition to the Solomon Islands in 1595-1596, which discovered the Marquesas and Santa Cruz, where Mendana died. Quiiros took charge of the expedition, proceeding to the Phillippines. In 1605, Quiros, in command of 3 ships, sailed from Peru to sear...
