The sitter of this portrait wears a dress of floral sprigged fabric [possibly shot taffeta] that has a sloping shoulder line with pelerine effect to bodice, a lace collar with pink ribbon tie at neckline, and an indoor "house" cap" with pink silk roses.

Administrative / Biographical history
Sarah Mease married Edmund Thomas Blacket, architect, at Wakefield, Yorkshire in 1842. The couple soon left England on the ship Eden arriving in Sydney on 3 November 1843. Sarah and Edmund Blacket had eight children.
