James Edward Raymond (1852-1931) was born in Sydney and was the oldest son of Samuel and Catherine Raymond. His grandfather, James Raymond (1786-1851), arrived in Sydney in 1826 and served as postmaster general. James E. Raymond married Martha Jane Croker in 1879 and they moved to Greenwich in 1905.
