The photographs belonged to the donor's father, and were left to her when he died. Mrs Bartram presented this collection to the Mitchell Library in December 1978. William Milne Burgess (1886-1970) was the third child of Rev. John Burgess. He was a gunner with 7 Field Artillery Brigade in the First World War, embarking on 11 May 1916 on HMAT Argyllshire.
