For Christmas 1915 the Australian War Contingent Association in London produced and distributed to each Australian soldier a Christmas gift tin. Private John Archibald Douglas Sommers, artist and author of Melbourne, Victoria, served with the 1st Division, Australian Army Service Corps in Egypt, Gallipoli and France.
