Following the decease of Thomas Sloman, the letters passed to his daughters, and in due course were divided amongst his grandaughters and detailed in self-published book Letters to Tom by Joan Thomas (Avalon Beach, 1995). Thomas Martin Sloman (1811-1902), banker and pastoralist, was born on 29 May 1811 at Exeter, England, the eldest son of Samuel George Sloman (d. 1846), a wine merchant of Exeter with business in Portugal.
