The scrapbook was apparently commenced by Ella Doran's mother and continued by Ella. It was sent to the State Library of New South Wales by her cousin, Yvonne Roberts, following Ella's hospitalisation.

Administrative / Biographical history
Elvira 'Ella' Doran was born in Petersham, Sydney in 1907, the hearing daughter of deaf parents. Educated at Woodcourt College, Dulwich Hill, she began interpreting for the deaf at the age of 14. She was an interpreter for the (then) Deaf and Dumb Society of NSW during the 1930s, later working for the NSW Child Welfare Department and Royal Canberra...
