The donor, Ann Varley (née Johnston), was married to the late Michael Varley, whose first wife (Judith, d. 1993) was a descendant of James Norton.

Administrative / Biographical history
James Norton (1824-1906), solicitor and politician, was born in Sydney, the eldest son of James Norton (1795-1862). James (the younger) was admitted a solicitor in 1848 and joined his father to establish Norton & Son, which became incorporated in 1897 as Norton Smith & Co.
