Daily log of the Marquis Cornwallis from 1 February to 1 November 1796. The folio log is enclosed in a sailcloth cover which is lettered in ink: 'Ship Marqs. Cornwallis. Log book 1795 & 1796'. The log records courses, speeds, wind, weather, latitudes, and daily events on the ship including work done by sailors and convicts. It also records sighting...

General note

The first part of the log which would have included details of the mutiny was probably detached and used at the Court of Enquiry. It is not known to have survived. The log from Calcutta to England is held in the India Records Office in London.
