A tentative attribution of authorship of the diary is given in donor's letter to the Field Librarian dated 19/11/97. Donor writes that "possibly she was travelling to Sydney to meet her future husband Lewis Birnstingl". Internal evidence seems to suggest the diary was written by a woman.
