Collection history
The manuscript formed part of Roquemaurel’s personal library and remained in the family until the early 1970s when it was sold to a private collector. Remained in the same collection until early 2018 when it was purchased in the USA by a UK collector.
Administrative / Biographical history
Louis François Gaston Marie Auguste de Roquemaurel was born in 1804 in Auriac near Toulouse. In 1825 he joined the French navy and for the next 11 years served in the Mediterranean. In 1836 he was promoted lieutenant de vaisseau and a year later joined Dumont d’Urvilles’ third expedition to Antarctica and the South Seas as second officer of the Ast...
