Susan Varga was born in Hungary in 1943 and came to Australia with her mother, Heddy, her sister and her stepfather in 1948. Her book, Heddy and Me (1994), explores, in part, her mother’s life as a Hungarian Jew during World War II, and their shared bond as Holocaust survivors in post-war Australia.
