James Francis Hurley, photographer, Antarctic explorer and author, was born in Sydney, N.S.W., on 15 Oct., 1885. In 1911, he became a member of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-1914, and was appointed to the staff of the Main Base Party as the official photographer.
