George Caley was born in England in 1770. He developed an interest in botany and after working in Kew Gardens he was appointed by Sir Joseph Banks in 1798 to go to New South Wales as a collector. He arrived in Sydney in 1800 and spent the next ten years collecting natural history specimens and exploring. He journeyed as far afield as Van Diemen's...
