Administrative / Biographical history

William Stewart, 1769-1854, was born in Caithness, Scotland. He joined the army in 1794 and reached the rank of Major-General in 1830. He was Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales 1825-1827. In 1832, he resigned from the Army to take up his land grant at Mount Pleasant, Bathurst, purchasing further land in succeeding years. he is reputed to have b...
