DL Pf 1 is accompanied by a damaged broadsheet headed 'THE SMAL[L OUT]LINE / OF A / NATIONAL PICTURE/ DESCRIBED' which gives an account of a picture measuring 11 x 8 in., with subject the same as DL Pf 1; this may be the one for which the existing painting is the sketch
