George Langley Leathes Lawson was born in Egremont, Cumberland in London in 1858, he gained his medical degree in Scotland and travelled to Australia in the 1880's, then later volunteered to serve in the Boer War (1899-1902) in the 6th Imperial Bushmen regiment, reaching the rank of luitenant on June 1 1907.
