Administrative / Biographical history
John Piper (1773-1851) was a military officer who took over administration of Norfolk Island in 1804, and was promoted to full captain in 1806.
Thomas Hassall (1794–1868) was an influential minister and magistrate, winning the affection of squatters and farmers throughout rural New South Wales. He worked as curate under Samuel Marsden.
