Signed 'TH' at lower left in ink. Following the signature there appears to be a date; this is partly covered by the mount and is indecipherable.

On the back of the picture is a note signed and dated 'Edith Deane 14 Jan. 1932' stating that the picture was given by Huxley to her grandfather, Lieut. Colonel Barney, R.N. Miss Deane received it from her mother, Mrs Henrietta Deane.
